InLine has designed catwalks for commercial buildings. These can be made from structural steel with bolted or welded connections and are normally supported by the roof framing. The structural steel is common on new buildings and buildings that have a structural steel roof system. Catwalks can also be designed from metal studs and screws which can allow for easy field installation. The metal stud option can work well with existing buildings. If permitted by fire code, catwalks can also be designed from timber framing. The wood frame option has some design challenges for bracing and connections when installed in existing buildings.
