Pallet Racks and Shelving

Pallet racks and industrial shelving is normally very strong for vertical (gravity) loads while the lateral (earthquake) strength is often weak in comparison.  The earthquake safety of heavily loaded rack systems in California may not meet the Building Code standards.  The potential for these systems to topple over or buckle during a seismic event can be a significant risk.

Bracing can be accomplished by upgrading the rack system.  An example would be upgrades to the column elements by attaching additional steel channels.

Bracing can also be accomplished by installing bracing elements that are attached to an independent structure or building.  An example would require metal struts be connected to the rack and the roof of a building.
